Drip Pad Inspections

Client: Amerities

Location: The Dalles, Oregon

AmeriTies operates a creosote-railroad-tie-treating facility in The Dalles, Oregon. Production of the ties involves treating them with creosote under heat and pressure. After treatment they are allowed to drip dry while resting on a concrete pad. An annual certification by a professional engineer is required to ensure that underlying soil and groundwater are protected and that the company can continue their specialized operations without interruption.

MFA has been conducting drip pad inspections for AmeriTies since 2009, ensuring that the facility’s pads are functioning as designed. Annual drip pad inspections require the engineer to perform a visual evaluation on site and to confirm that the pad is in compliance with the regulatory requirements of 40 CFR Part 265, Subpart W, Sec. 265.443(a) and (c) through (f).

On many occasions, MFA was able to offer AmeriTies suggestions for improvements and repairs when equipment required them, allowing the company to continue operation of a successful treatment plant.

Because of MFA’s assistance, AmeriTies is able to:

  • Comply with regulatory requirements of 40 CFR Part 265, Subpart W, Sec. 265.443(a) and (c) through (f)
  • Receive regular monitoring for potential repairs necessary to continue operations
