Wait, I get to make maps for a living!? After I pinch myself, I look around to see an all-star crew as enthusiastic as I am about solving geospatial problems. Since joining the MFA team, with its strong reputation and established client base, I've enjoyed working with communities on mapping projects that open my eyes to new challenges. My goal at MFA is to tackle emerging issues our communities face…and have fun while doing it!

Who is Jed Roberts?

Jed spent his early years on the western shores of Michigan’s lower peninsula. Maps hand-drawn in crayon were an early expression of his love for geography. Poring over atlases and almanacs, he soon homed in on the Pacific Northwest for its temperate climate and lush forests. He made the move to Oregon in 2005.

Jed brought with him a fascination with landscapes and how we interact with them. He is an expert in using GIS to explore and improve these interactions. He also recognizes the limits of technology in tackling our constant challenges to provide context and balance competing priorities. He takes pride in his ability to break down complex issues, understand what’s at stake, and clearly communicate a path forward. This helps him build the relationships that are critical to successful projects.

Jed has experience in technical areas including hydrology, geomorphology, geohazards and assessing risk, lidar, and land use planning. His previous roles included analyst, technical lead, principal investigator, project manager, and program manager. Before joining the MFA team, he worked for 16 years in academia and state government.
