As a geologist, I gain intimate knowledge about businesses and industries by taking a behind-the-scenes look at their operations, and I become a historian of sorts about past practices on their sites. I really enjoy traveling past project sites that I’ve worked on or hearing about clients in the news and knowing that I helped them to be better environmental stewards.

Who is Emily Hess, LHG, RG?
Emily has eight years of diverse environmental consulting and scientific research experience working with state, federal, and industrial clients. Since joining MFA in 2014, she has been involved with a range of projects involving environmental remediation, mining, solid waste, and brownfield development. Emily has completed site assessments and characterization, remedial investigations, and remedial actions for various contaminated properties. She also has experience in construction oversight for in-water and land-based projects, including the removal and closure of underground storage tanks. Her fieldwork background includes geologic logging of subsurface materials; soil, air, groundwater, and stormwater sampling; site characterization; and archaeological excavations in Indonesia and Israel. Emily’s work as a laboratory analyst has provided her with insight into data analysis, integrity, and validation. In addition, she has a strong understanding of geochronology and isotope geochemistry for both stable and radioactive isotopes. The combination of environmental chemistry and geology experience provides Emily with a comprehensive set of tools that will enhance her work on MFA projects.
