The City of Spokane is attempting to redevelop the University District. Investments by Washington State University, Eastern Washington, Gonzaga University and other higher education institutions create an opportunity to transfer academic research into innovative new businesses. Investment is hindered by brownfield concerns and lack of a coordinated implementation strategy.

MFA supported the City in obtaining an Integrated Planning Grant from the Department of Ecology. With these funds, MFA is working with key parties to coordinate investments, resolve legacy environmental impacts, and collaboratively position properties for private redevelopment.
