Design-Build Services for an Industrial Brownfield Redevelopment

Client: Private Business

Location: Portland, Oregon

Project Overview

MFA assisted the owner by developing and negotiating a low-risk, cost-effective cleanup that was specifically tailored to address private funding and Oregon Economic and Community Development Department fiscal risk parameters. This allowed a prospective purchaser to limit its liability while at the same time taking on the cleanup responsibility. MFA implemented this design-build cleanup effort for the new owner; the project was awarded the 2007 Brownfield of the Year Award by the State of Oregon. The site is now the location of a thriving business employing approximately 70 people.

Site Cleanup

The cleanup involved excavating and treating contaminated soil, decommissioning multiple dry wells, and installing an in-ground infiltration system.

Property Redevelopment

In a second phase, we led the negotiations, design, and cleanup of off-site soil impacts, which allowed the adjacent property owner to redevelop its property.
