HYDROLOGIST
(Portland, OR/Vancouver, WA)
MFA is seeking a staff-level hydrogeologist for our Vancouver or Portland office. The hydrogeologist will perform tasks including soil, groundwater, surface water, and sediment sampling; drilling and well installation oversight; classification of soil and rocks; and preparing site maps, geologic/hydrogeologic cross sections, and various contour maps. The hydrogeologist will provide technical support for projects involving site investigation, risk assessment, and remediation and will assist with the preparation of cost estimates and reports.
Qualifications:
The position requires a bachelor’s degree in geology, hydrogeology, engineering geology, or geological engineering. The candidate must have a working knowledge of the following: logging boreholes; borehole soil and groundwater sampling; installing wells (monitoring, production, recovery, extraction); well development and sampling; performing aquifer tests; scheduling equipment and materials; assistance with the preparation of reports and presentation materials; and cost estimates.
Desired skills include the ability to assist with quantitative hydrogeologic analyses, calibrating, and applying subsurface fluid flow models. The candidate should have a working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel and have strong written and verbal communication skills. Groundwater/surface water modeling and/or Geographical Information Systems experience is a plus. 40-Hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) training, two to five years’ experience, and a master’s degree are preferred.

Physical Demands:
This position typically involves the performance of certain physical duties, which may include lifting, use of respiratory equipment and other protective gear, operation of complex machinery, traversing rough terrain, and transporting equipment various distances. The position also involves extended periods of sitting or standing. Generally, a minimum of 40 hours per week is required, with some situations requiring extended hours. Occasional overnight travel and regular daytime travel are sometimes necessary.
